Leadership

Our leadership, teamwork, mission and vision result in the best outcomes for our surgical patients.

Chairperson of Surgical Services Anthy Demestihas, MD, ensures that our medical staff remains focused on providing outstanding service through innovative surgical treatments and technology. Her leadership recognizes the value of our team of skilled professionals that keeps St. Vincent’s on the leading edge of surgical intervention.

Brooke Karlsen, MSN, RN, VP of Surgical Services, joined St. Vincent’s in 2004 as director of surgical services. She has had administrative responsibility for numerous areas of our health system.  She played an integral role in the design and creation of the Robotic Surgery Program and the Hybrid OR and TAVR program.

Our surgeons and specialists, anesthesiologists, operating room and recovery nurses, and other medical and support staff, work individually and collectively in a multidisciplinary setting to provide you with the best surgical care.

Minimally Invasive surgery

The da Vinci Xi System can be used across a spectrum of minimally invasive surgical procedures and has been optimized for multi-quadrant surgeries in the areas of gynecology, urology, thoracic, cardiac and general surgery. As with all robotic systems, the surgeon is 100% in control, which translates his/her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body. The Xi System’s immersive 3D-HD vision system provides surgeons a highly magnified view, virtually extending their eyes and hands into the patient.
