The Michael J. Daly Center for Emergency and Trauma Care
Dedicated on Thursday, December 10, 2009, St. Vincent’s new Emergency Department will include, when completed in the fall of 2010:
- 60 beds will replace the current 28
- Footprint will triple to 40,000 square feet – a full acre of space
- "Fast Track" Area
- Specialized trauma and critical care suites
- Dedicated OB/GYN rooms
- Pediatric Area
- Behavioral Health and Psychiatric Area
- Self-contained imaging/diagnostics
- Permanent decontamination facility
Our discreet psychiatric emergency area will be the first such facility available 24 hours a day in Fairfield County. It will have its own entrance and space configured to behavioral health patients.
Because of the tremendous volume and the objective of centralizing all aspects of emergency care, the ED will have the most contemporary diagnostic equipment, including its own CT scanner, ultrasound and X-ray equipment.
For patient safety, it also will have automated pharmaceutical dispensing and vastly improved computerized monitoring technology, including cardiac monitoring capability in all rooms.
Next steps:
The new section of the Michael J. Daly Center for Emergency and Trauma Care will function as the Emergency Department, while the original ED undergoes renovation. The entire project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2010.
