Bio

John “Jack” Irving, M.D. is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. A native of Milford, he graduated from the Tulane University School of Medicine where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and received the Gold Scalpel Award for excellence in Surgery. Dr. Irving then completed a five-year orthopaedic residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He and his family moved back home to Connecticut where he has been a practicing orthopaedic surgeon in southern Connecticut for 30 years.

Dr. Irving specializes in joint replacement surgery and has performed more than 6000 total knee replacements and 5000 total hip replacements. He has been using the anterior approach for hips and other less invasive surgical techniques for over 20 years and participates in clinical research to improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Irving is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, The Society of Arthritic Joint Surgeons and the AMA. He has received numerous awards for his clinical work throughout his career including Connecticut Top Doctor, Best Doctors, Pro Publica top 4% of best performing US surgeons and a 5-Star rating from Surgeon Rating by Consumer Checkbook. He was a member of the National Champion Northeastern University Crew while an undergraduate.

He is currently co-director of the Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at St. Vincent’s Medical Center and was director of the Connecticut Joint Center at Milford Hospital for 15 years. He is on staff at St. Vincent’s Medical in Bridgeport and Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. Dr. Irving enjoys spending his free time with his grandsons, as well as fly fishing, boating, skiing, biking, and scuba diving. He is an avid gardener and loves to cook.
