Welcome to St. Vincent’s Family Birthing Center. We are committed to providing women with birthing services that meet their needs. Safety and health for you and your baby are our top priority. We guide moms, dads, and family members through pregnancy, delivery, and parenthood.


Dedicated Staff

Our dedicated medical professionals are experienced in providing care in labor and delivery, newborn and postpartum disciplines, including inpatient obstetrics, maternal newborn nursing, lactation, external fetal monitoring, childbirth education, neonatal intensive care, and more.

St. Vincent’s multidisciplinary staff is comprised of board certified obstetricians and certified nurse midwives. We have more than 50 pediatricians caring for our newborns. These include board certified perinatologists and neonatologists, experts in maternal and fetal health, genetic counselors, and lactation and breastfeeding support specialists, all working as a team for pregnancies and births involving special needs.


Family Birthing Center (FBC)

The Family Birthing Center (FBC) offers high quality care combined with advanced technology in an atmosphere of trust and caring.

In the Antenatal Testing Unit, parents-to-be may choose the option of our maternal fetal screenings, including prenatal testing and ultrasound, genetic testing and counseling, targeted ultrasound, and fetal echocardiography.

Get Acquainted: FBC At-A-Glance

  • Located on the 5th floor of the Medical Center, St. Vincent's Family Birthing Center features private suites for new mothers to comfortably remain in their own rooms throughout labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum stay.
  • Twelve (12) beds in labor and delivery
  • Sixteen (16) postpartum beds where mothers are transferred after their babies are born
  • The Birthplace at St. Vincent’s, where our midwives focus on a holistic approach to providing care and support during your pregnancy, labor, and birth. The Birthplace includes two (2) private birth suites where families can labor and deliver under the guidance of a midwife.
  • Our NICU provides neonatal expertise for premature, underweight and at-risk babies. Connecticut Children’s neonatologists provide 24/7 physician coverage for the St. Vincent’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This collaboration reflects an ongoing commitment to mothers and children and is consistent with Connecticut Children’s mission of providing world-class pediatric care close to home.

Testing and consultation services include: ultrasound, first-trimester fetal screening genetic, prenatal counseling, urogynecological consultation, and more.


Educational Resources

St. Vincent's offers a variety of educational resources at the hospital to help you learn to care for your new baby. Our staff welcomes you to bring your baby with you to our classes and encourages you to use our support services.

eLearning Prenatal Education

When traditional childbirth education classes are not a possibility due to bed rest, scheduling conflicts, or time constraints, we have a solution.

Pediatric Care Alliance

Through the coordinated expertise of the Pediatric Care Alliance, a partnership between Hartford HealthCare and Connecticut Children’s Hospital, we also offer streamlined care close to home for children from birth to young adulthood.

This robust venture ensures that children and families in the communities we serve have access to the best possible care when and where they need it, and fosters innovation in pediatric healthcare for children of all ages.
